Meet Jen
Jen graduated from the University of Georgia with an undergraduate degree in Child and Family Development. Jen also had the pleasure of working with the Walt Disney World Company for seven years. She then decided to follow her passion and pursue work with students in Higher Education specifically in Admissions. Jen wanted to further her work with college students and decided to explore the life of a professional counselor. Jen began her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Richmont Graduate University in 2016 and will receive her degree in August 2019.
As a counselor, Jen views her clients as unique with their own story composed of both pains and joys. She has experience working with diverse groups of people at the Hope Counseling Center, Ridgeview Institute, City of Refuge and the Richmont Trauma Center. Jen is passionate about working with college students, women, couples, families, and those who have experienced trauma. She enjoys helping individuals process through grief, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship distress, self-esteem issues, and addiction.
Having attended a graduate school with Christian integration, Jen has been trained to understand and acknowledge how one's faith and spirituality can impact their mental and emotional health. Jen comes from a Christian background and is glad to integrate faith into therapy as encouraged by the client. Jen appreciates and respects those of varying religious and social backgrounds and happy to work with those of any belief.
During her internship year, Jen had the opportunity to explore a variety of theoretical orientations. While working a at City of Refuge and the Hope Counseling Center, Jen discovered she enjoys operating from a person centered perspective by teaching her clients self-actualization through acceptance. Jen also developed a desire to use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while working at Ridgeview Institute. Jen also incorporates mindfulness techniques in her therapy sessions.
